SFO - Serious Fraud Office

International Women's Day

2012 is already shaping up to be a year where we celebrate the success of a great many women. From the Queen in her diamond jubilee year to women athletes at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the sad example of the untimely death of journalist Marie Colvin, there will be plenty examples of women's achievements and dedication. But on this International Women's Day I would like to celebrate the success of the women in the Serious Fraud Office.

With women making up over 40 per cent of our workforce, the SFO continues to have one of the higher ratios of women in law enforcement and this definitely adds to the way we go about our work. People often think that women in law enforcement agencies only work in 'soft areas' like human resources, communications and customer support. Women do work for us in these areas. This website, for example, is maintained by our e-communications manager who is a woman and women head our knowledge management and innovation, commerical and policy teams. And it happens to be women who are our witness care officers. But make no mistake, more women in the SFO work 'on the front line' as investigators, accountants, digital forensic analysts and lawyers.

They get just as involved as male colleagues searching premises, analysing evidence, interviewing scheming criminals face to face, presenting the conclusions of their investigations to top flight defence counsel, and representing the SFO before judges. They do this with great flair and have been instrumental to the success of many of our cases. You can find out more about the types of cases they have been involved in by following the links below.
