The Serious Fraud Office is investigating the activities of Sustainable Agroenergy Plc and Sustainable Wealth Investments UK Ltd and associated companies in connection with selling 'bio-fuel' investment products involving Jatropha tree plantations in South East Asia.

Updates

Case update 08 December 2014

The trial of four individuals commenced at Southwark Crown Court on 6 October 2014.  At the conclusion of the trial Mr West, Mr Whale and Mr Stone were convicted of conspiracy to commit fraud, conspiracy to furnish false information, fraudulent trading and Bribery Act 2010 offences. They were sentenced to 13, 9 and 6 years imprisonment respectively. Mr West and Mr Whale were disqualified from being a director for 15 years whilst Mr Stone was disqualified for 10 years. A fourth individual was acquitted of all charges.

Legal proceedings to establish compensation and confiscation orders against the three defendants have commenced.

Case update 29 July 2014

At Southwark Crown Court today the trial date was moved back by 2 weeks and will now start on the 6th October.

All 4 defendants were released on bail.

Case update 15 November 2013

A first hearing in Southwark Crown Court took place on the 7 October 2013. The case is listed for trial on 22 September 2014.

The next hearing will be a case management hearing on 28 April 2014. All 4 defendants were released on bail.
