Barlow Clowes Investments
Peter Clowes was the driver behind a £17 million investment fraud that took place in the mid 1980s. His business, Barlow Clowes Ltd attracted private investors to buy gilt-edged securities promoted as being secure. The scheme was a fraud from the start. His claims and promises were false. He simply stole investors' funds. After a trial at the Old Bailey in 1992 in which 113 witnesses appeared for the prosecution. He was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment.
