Following a recommendation from the HM Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate and after a fair and open competition the Director of the SFO has appointed Mark Thompson, latterly the Head of its Proceeds of Crime Division and Chief Finance Officer, as its Chief Operating Officer.

Mark will report to the Director on matters concerning governance structure and corporate services, including oversight of Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology and Strategic Relations.

SFO Director David Green CB QC said:

“I am extremely pleased to appoint Mark as Chief Operating Officer. Mark will bring further cohesion and clarity to the way the SFO conducts its corporate and business responsibilities in support of our casework and a strong focus on ensuring value for money.”

Mark Thompson said:

“I am very pleased to have this opportunity to help in driving further improvement in the SFO’s performance.  I will be looking to use my broad experience of several different roles at the SFO to strengthen our corporate services functions.”

Notes:

  1. The creation of a new Chief Operating Officer post follows a recommendation in HMCPSI’s report, SFO Governance Arrangements.  It is at civil service grade SCS2.
