2020-106 – Case costs
?>Date Answered: 10 August 2020
The 2019/20 annual report for the SFO details ‘other case costs’ as £7.2m (p77) – a substantial jump from the 2018/19 financial year.
Please could you breakdown the other case costs figure into its component parts in order to explain why it has increased so significantly.
Due to the SFO’s small but large caseload of economic crime cases, costs can fluctuate each financial year. The £7.2m consists of costs relating to the presentation of evidence, document preparation, fees to experts, legal fees, transcriptions, accountancy fees, witness expenses, translations as well as expenditure on court appointed receivers’ fees and expenses.
